THE SINS OF OUR FATHERS

The sins of our fathers is an 18th century dark fairy tale set in the lake district. The film tells the story of a father and son who are traveling through purgatory with the body of their dead grandfather.

 

Along the way they meet several strangers in need of help, all of them in different states of dire need. Each stranger poses as a test of morality and kindness, and for every stranger the father refuses his help. As the pair near the end of there harrowing journey; cart broken, low on supplies and lost in the stretching barrens of the wilderness, they too are now in need of help. it is when night begins to fall, the pair, lost in the dark, spot a light in the distance from a near by farm. With this sign of hope, they make there way to the light. 

When they arrive they are greeted with the sound of festivities coming from inside. the father knocks on the door, to humbly beg for help, the door opens and they are greeted by warmth a full spread feast and roaring fire, sitting around the table to the fathers surprise are the very strangers they refused to help and left for dead....

The film was shot over a period of 10 days in the lake district. with a large cast and crew it presented not only a technical and logistical challenge but artistically was new and exiting to work on something in this period and style.

'Don't let the cold in' is a short macabre drama. The film tells the story of a man who has lost his wife and is struggling to come to terms with the reality of his situation.

 

The film begins as max comes home as he does every night and goes about his routine, the house is noticeably cold and empty. he sits upstairs in his bedroom and begins to flick through old photographs, one shows a younger him with bride in arm; his wife Eva smiles from through the still photograph up at him. The silence of the house is disturbed as soft music begins to play from downstairs, max turns to the open down of his room and follows the sound of music, as he does the house gets brighter the lights in the halls and rooms are now on, standing in the kitchen preparing dinner is his wife. 

As the evening progresses it becomes clear that all is not as it seams, skipping from a dream like dance that never took place, to cold sobering reality.

At the end of the evening, max shows his wife to the door, he waves her goodbye and closes the door, once left alone in the house again, he listens to the silence. the sound of the traffic from outside gets louder and louder until a shattering crash breaks the air. silence once more. a tear in his eye max returns to the kitchen and begins to clear the plates, Evas' dinner and full glass of wine sits untouched. He scrapes it into the bin and goes upstairs, turning the lights off as he goes.
